Sometime the Most Important Cases Are Not the Biggest
One of the most important cases I had the pleasure of working on involved defending a senior citizen who was being forced out of her nursing home. She had no family, but many close friends at the nursing home where she had lived for many years. She was ill and obese and required lots of attention and care. When her personal assets were finally depleted, the nursing home no longer wanted to settle for the lower amount that Medicaid paid and wanted her out. To remove her from the home, the staff was instructed to dummy up many bogus rule violations related to my client's use of a scooter and her feeding of a stray cat. During the trial, I was able to prove that she did not violate any rules and she was allowed to stay in the nursing home. She passed away a short while after the trial at her home and with the only family she had left.
